Tom Steward - Baritone Sax

Tom Steward is the elder statesman of the Swing Street Band. He started playing clarinet when he was 12 years old and, with the exception of 'wasting' a few years as an engineer (Civil Engineering degree from NYU) he has been involved in music ever since.

When he joined the Navy at the end of WWII (is he really that old?), he ended up playing in the Navy Band. Then, when his constant traveling as an engineer slowed in the late 70s, he was able to resume a music schedule.

In the late 80s he was back in college studying music in Southern California and playing with the likes of Louis Bellson, Jack Sheldon, Rob McConnell, and others. In the mid 90s he moved to North Carolina, where he has been playing regularly with the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra, the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, and the UNC jazz band, as well as playing in the pit orchestra at the Temple Theater.

Tom is easily amused... just offer him a beer, a place to sit, and some people to talk to about jazz, and he'll be happy.
